The verdict at the top tells you what the credentials prove. Below it you’ll find who signed the file, the tool that made it, the recorded edits, and the files it was made from.
Requirements
A Mac with macOS 14 Sonoma or later. Trueprint reads JPEG, PNG, HEIC, WebP, AVIF, MP4 and MOV files. HDR photos and videos show in HDR on screens that support it.
Common questions
No Content Credentials
My file says "No Content Credentials". Does that mean it is fake? No. Most photos and videos have no Content Credentials yet: many cameras, phones and websites do not add them, and some apps remove them. Trueprint can only report what is recorded in the file.
Changed after signing
What does "Changed after signing" mean? The file was signed, but its contents no longer match the signature. Someone or something edited the file after it was signed, so the recorded history no longer describes it exactly.
Signed by an unknown signer
What does "Signed by an unknown signer" mean? The signature is intact, but the signer is not on the Content Credentials trust list that ships with Trueprint. It may be a new or test signer. Trueprint shows the trust list date in the window.
Credentials stored online
Why does Trueprint say the credentials are stored online? Some files point to credentials kept on a website instead of inside the file. Trueprint has no internet access, so it shows the address instead. You can check it at contentcredentials.org/verify, a separate website with its own privacy policy: checking a file there sends it to that site.
AI images
Does Trueprint detect AI images? Trueprint does not guess. It shows what the Content Credentials record, including when a file says it was made or edited with AI and which tool was used.
Revocation not checked
Why does it say revocation was not checked? Checking whether a signing certificate was withdrawn needs the internet. Trueprint works offline, so it tells you this check was not done.
Private and open source
Trueprint works entirely on your Mac and collects no data. Read the Trueprint privacy policy.
Trueprint is free and will be open source under the MIT licence. It is built on the Content Authenticity Initiative’s open-source library.
